Paid placements only affect visibility, never the facts in a listing. See our Review Policy.

Questions

Before you call a broker

What people ask us, answered plainly. We do not publish figures we cannot source.

Is a listing on PracticeForSaleHub an endorsement?

No. We independently compile brokers and M&A advisors who work on practice transactions, and we list them whether or not they have ever paid us anything. Brokers can request a free basic listing or a paid featured placement. Paid placement changes visibility only — it does not change the factual description of a broker, and it is never presented as a recommendation. Where a placement is paid, it is marked, in line with FTC guidance on clear and conspicuous disclosure of material connections. Our full policy is on the About & Review Policy page.

Do you rank brokers, or score them?

No. We hold no reviews, no star ratings and no scores, so publishing a ranking would mean inventing an order we cannot defend. What we publish instead is verifiable: the broker's own description of their focus, and whether we were able to reach their official website and confirm it ourselves. Of the 23 brokers listed here, 23 are URL-verified as of 2026-08-03. The rest are listed with that flag off — usually because bot protection blocked our check, not because anything was wrong. We show that either way.

How do I check that a practice broker is legitimate?

Licensing depends on what is actually being sold. If the deal includes real property — the building, or the land under it — most states require the person brokering that part to hold an active real estate licence in the state where the property sits, and every state real estate commission publishes a free license lookup. If the deal is assets and goodwill only, many states do not require a licence at all. Ask the broker which of the two your deal is, and ask them to say it in writing.

What does a broker charge to sell a business?

There is no published statistic we can cite, so we do not print a percentage. What matters more than the headline number is the five terms that sit around it, and every one of them is in the engagement letter: (1) the success fee and what price it is calculated on, (2) any minimum fee, which on a smaller deal can exceed the percentage, (3) any retainer or monthly work fee, and whether it credits against the success fee, (4) the exclusivity period and how you get out of it, and (5) the tail — how long after the agreement ends the broker is still owed a fee if you sell to someone they introduced. Ask for the engagement letter before the valuation conversation, not after.

Should I talk to more than one broker?

Yes, and it costs you nothing to do it. Most listing agreements are exclusive for a fixed term, so the broker you sign with is the only one working your deal for that whole period. Talk to two or three before you sign, ask each the same questions, and compare the answers side by side. That is what this directory is for — it lists 23 firms so you can find the second and third call, not just the first.

What will a buyer ask for once we are under contract?

Expect diligence to start with documents you should already have in order: three years of financial statements and tax returns, a current rent roll or customer list, the leases and service contracts that transfer with the business, insurance history, any environmental or condition reports, and proof of licences and permits. Gaps here are what stall deals and reopen price. Assemble the file before you go to market, not when the request arrives.

Are you a broker? Do you take a commission on deals?

No. We do not broker transactions, we do not represent buyers or sellers, and we take no commission or referral fee on any deal. We publish a directory. Enquiries go directly to the firms listed, and what happens after that is between you and them.
